Yes — you can start completely free, no card required. The Free plan lets you create stories every month with illustrations included. It's a great way to try Tellah before deciding whether to upgrade. Paid plans unlock more stories, longer reads, audio narration, more illustrations per story, saved characters, and the Family plan.

Very. You can set the story type (adventure, fairy tale, bedtime story, poem, chapter book…), the length, the setting, and the tone. On Starter plans and above you can also save detailed character profiles — name, age, appearance, personality, clothing, backstory — and Tellah will weave them into the story and illustrations consistently every time. The more detail you give, the more the story feels like it was written just for your family.

Characters are saved profiles you build once and reuse in any story. You describe a character — their name, age, hair colour, personality, favourite things — and Tellah remembers them. Add them to a new story and they'll appear both in the writing and the illustrations looking consistent every time. You can even generate a portrait for each character to use as a visual reference. Characters can be your children, pets, family members, or anyone you like.

Yes. On Starter plans and above, Tellah can generate an audio narration of your story — a warm, natural-sounding voice reading it aloud. This is perfect for bedtime, for younger children who aren't reading yet, or for anyone who just wants to sit back and listen. You can play it directly in the browser without downloading anything.

Yes. Tellah supports series — you can create a story, then add chapters to it over time to build a longer narrative. Each chapter picks up where the last left off, keeping the same characters, world, and tone. It's a great way to build a bedtime ritual: one new chapter a night. Readers can also subscribe to a series and get notified when you add a new chapter.

The Family plan lets one account owner invite additional family members — each with their own login — and everyone shares a single pooled allowance of stories, illustrations, and narrations. It's designed so that parents, grandparents, or siblings can all create stories without needing separate subscriptions. The account owner manages the family and can see who's creating.

Your stories are private by default — only you can see them. When you're ready to share, you can turn on sharing for any individual story and send a link to grandparents, friends, or anyone you like. They can read the story (and listen to the narration) without needing a Tellah account.

Tellah is designed for families with young children, but the stories work across a wide age range. You control the theme, tone, and content of every story — so you can create a gentle rhyming bedtime story for a toddler, an exciting adventure for a seven-year-old, or a longer chapter book for older children. Tellah will never produce inappropriate content, and you're always in control of what goes into the story prompt.

The information you enter — character descriptions, story prompts, your name — is stored securely and used only to generate your stories. We don't sell your data or use it to train AI models. We collect only what's needed to run the service. You can delete your stories and characters at any time from your account.

You can cancel anytime from your account — no hoops, no phone calls. When you cancel, your plan stays active until the end of the period you've already paid for, then switches to Free. Your stories and characters are never deleted when you cancel. Billing is monthly or annually (annual saves you two months), and payments are handled securely through Stripe.
